FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CORVALLIS, OR – Sept. 13, 2016 – On September 20, 2016, the Marys Peak Group of the Sierra Club will be presenting Benton Habitat for Humanity with a check for $6,500 to retrofit two of the Benton Habitat for Humanity Homes located at 5th Ave. in Corvallis with Solar Panels. The presentation event will take place at 4:30 PM in Little Fields Park on the corner of SW 5th Street and SW B Avenue.
This collaboration is the first of its kind locally between the two groups. Karen Rockwell, the executive director of Benton Habitat said of the venture that, “I couldn’t be more excited about the Sierra Club’s decision to select Benton Habitat for Humanity to partner with on this project. Providing these funds allows us to provide Habitat homeowners with increased affordability and environmental sustainability. Not only will the cost of power to the families be substantially reduced, the project also goes hand-in-hand with our community’s sustainability goals!”
In addition to the Sierra Club’s generous donation, the nonprofit group Seeds for the Sol will be providing financial resources and expertise. Solar power company, Abundant Solar, will be providing discounted labor and will be donating two inverters. Rockwell is excited about the collaboration, marrying affordable housing and environmental sustainability.
The entire community is invited to the check presentation and signing ceremony. The Benton Habitat homeowners will be present for the signing the solar installation documents. There will be brief remarks followed by an exterior tour of the Habitat homes being retrofitted with solar panel units.
The ceremony will begin promptly at 4:30 PM at Little Fields Park in Corvallis (near the intersection of 5th Street and B Avenue) on Sept. 20.
